If you or someone in your family is in a wheelchair and you are looking for the perfect vacation spot, then Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida might be perfect for you. Walt Disney World is one of the most accessible vacation destinations in the world if you are in a wheelchair. The best place to start your adventure is their interactive website. From there you can buy tickets, reserve hotel rooms, establish meal plans and plan your vacation as detailed as you would like.

Once you have identified the package and amenities you would like for your vacation you need to call Disney’s reservation line. From there you are able to request a wheelchair accessible room. Walt Disney World’s wheelchair accessible rooms are quite large and comfortable. There is room for a wheelchair to move around the bed and in the bathroom and the shower allows you to roll right in to access a built in bench.

You can also request a Disney wheelchair accessible charter bus and luggage pickup service from the airport to your Disney hotel. The Disney staff will actually pickup and deliver your luggage for you, so you do not need to deal with picking it up, transferring it to the bus or bringing it to your room. All Disney transportation from the hotels to the parks is wheelchair friendly with lifts or ramps and a highly trained staff that knows how to work with you and your wheelchair.

Once you are in a Disney park almost everything is accessible by wheelchair: bathrooms, restaurants, shows, shops, etc. Not all rides allow you to bring your wheelchair on board, but every ride attendant will stop the ride to allow you the time you need to transfer from your chair to the ride. Sadly, you do not get to go to the front of the link because you are in a wheelchair, but the high quality of service and support makes up for it.

Here are a few of the Disney rides that allow you to bring your wheelchair or scooter on with you:

Magic Kingdom – “It’s a Small World”

Epcot Center – “The Seas with Nemo & Friends”, “Universe of Energy”

Disney’s Hollywood Studios – “The Great American Movie Ride”

Animal Kingdom – “Kilimanjaro Safaris”
