I heard about the option to get a free or no cost electric wheelchair and I want to get one for my grandfather. He really needs one but he doesn't want to accept the fact that he gets older. I am scared that he gets mad when I just go ahead and order one. Is it even ok to do it? Anyone any experience how to handle a situation like this? I am really afraid that he falls one day and then has to stay at a hospital. Please help

Hi Johnny,

I think I might be able to help. Here are a couple comments/suggestions:

1) Your grandfather will not be able to get a "free" wheelchair - someone will have to pay for it. However, it may seem free to him because his insurance may pay for it for him, so it ends up being no out of pocket cost to him. Take a look at our FAQ section discussing this: http://www.wheelchairforme.com/how-can- ... cost-.html

2) It is ok for you to buy a power wheelchair for your grandfather without his permission, but it is not ok for you to order one through medicare, medicaid or another insurance carrier without his permission.

3) Your first step in the process should be to fill out our pre-qualification form or give one of our representatives a call at 877-359-2922. You will be walked through the process of how the wheelchair acquisition process works, will get information on what data our provider needs from your grandfather to proceed, and advice on talking to your grandfather.

4) You need to get your grandfather on board if you want to get a low or no cost power wheelchair. You must also make sure your grandfather needs a power wheelchair. This article might help:

I would also recommend going with your grandfather to his new doctor appointment and talk to the doctor about possibly getting a wheelchair. Your doctor will help make the decision and will accept input from you and your grandfather on how he is doing outside of the doctors office.

I hope this helps Johnny. Feel free to message me or give us a call.

Hi,

A mobility scooter is like a wheelchair, but with a motor attached. A scooter usually has a basket attached that allows a person to go shopping or just carry added extras that they might need.

Our knowledgeable sales associates are committed to adding value by offering advice and helping customers choose the best solution to meet their mobility needs.

Thanks,
